Publisher: Onibatan Music. This a work for for full orchestra, commissioned for the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra by Hebrew Union College in celebration of its 125th anniversary. The title refers to Mordechai Gebirtig, celebrated poet and songwriter from Krakow, who smiled moments before being murdered by the SS in 1942. The Smile is full of bits and pieces of Gebirtig’s beautiful and haunting melodies.
